Teen Jobs

I am Josh Callander & I am 15 years old.

Last year, I entered the Tauranga Young Innovator Awards and placed 3rd in the Junior category for a website idea called Teen Jobs. It was an innovative idea to enable students to find part time jobs in the community while being completely free to use for both students & households/ employers. After being successful at YiA I was encourage to develop the idea and it has been running in Tauranga for the past 6 months.  We have all Tauranga High Schools involved and 550 students registered with about 30 job offers a week. We are expanding the site nationwide, registering teenagers prior to opening the site to jobs on the 1st of June.

The students list themselves available in a variety of job categories, on their days available, in the areas they can work and households and employers can search for suitable students to help them. This could include everything from babysitting or lawn care right through to more permanent jobs.

The youth unemployment rate is very high and statistics show part time work has great benefits around responsibility, time management, work ethics, etc. Studies show students that do some work during school, have a lot better outcomes at age 25.

Please have a look at the website, https://www.teenjobs.co.nz and do some searches under Tauranga which is up and running.
